Pigtails & Crewcuts: The Place to Take Your Kids for a Haircut in Miami

0

Whether you’re getting them ready for camp or preparing them for back-to-school, keep your kids cool this summer with a fresh haircut at Pigtails & Crewcuts in Miami. It’s conveniently located at 6448 South Dixie Highway — just down the street from The Salty Donut’s new location and next to Fuchs Park with free parking just outside the salon’s front door. It’s tough to know where to take your kids for a haircut in Miami when all kids’ salons are seemingly created equal. Pigtails & Crewcuts sets itself apart.

The Background

Pigtails & Crewcuts is a franchise, operating for years with locations across the country. This particular location (the only one in Miami) has been open for about a year.

The Space

Pigtails & Crewcuts is stocked with children’s products, from hair supplies and nail products (like non-toxic Piggy Paint) to bows and headbands of all sizes. What struck me was how clean and organized everything looks. The entire space was spotless!

There’s a great seating area with a wooden train table that both my kids enjoyed playing with. Additionally, there’s a waiting room where kids have access to coloring supplies, books, and toys. This space also doubles as a party room where they host birthday bashes, which include dress up, braid styling, nail painting, arts and crafts and more — all customizable to fit your party needs.

For the haircut, kids have a choice of sitting in car and airplane-themed seats (a personal favorite for my daughter who chose the taxi) or salons seats. Each equipped with a television and a wide array of viewing options.

The People

The staff were friendly, instantly engaging my kids and making us feel welcome. The General Manager, Manuela, is the mom friend you didn’t know you were missing. She’s genuine and friendly, and it’s evident she’s passionate about the salon, kids, and family.

The Kids Haircut

The other factors are important, but they mean nothing if your kids don’t get a good haircut. My daughter was adamant about only trimming the ends, and Teresa delivered. My daughter’s hair was measured and remeasured during the trim, ensuring an even cut. Teresa also explained what she was doing throughout and then followed up with a heart braid hairstyle that my daughter loved!

My son’s thick and wavy hair had become unruly, but I wasn’t emotionally prepared for for his second haircut of all time (anyone else’s heart break when their baby suddenly looks like a little man?). They reassured me they could correct that without taking off any of the length. Valerie used thinning shears to take out some of the volume on top, leaving the rest of his hair untouched. As a result, his hair somehow looked the same just better.

They also offer a great Baby’s 1st Haircut package, which includes a photo, taken and printed on-site, and a lock of hair. It’s all placed in a commemorative photo folder with their name and the date.

The Treats

Post-haircut kids can get a lollipop. A trip to the treasure chest for a take-home goody is also included. There are also plenty of toys-for-purchase.

Overall Experience

“Cars and lollipops” were topping my daughter’s wishlist.  I hoped for a painless experience (sans toddler meltdowns) and a decent haircut. Pigtails & Crewcuts checked off all our boxes and exceeded expectations (my kids were enjoying their time there so much, they didn’t want to leave). We are all looking forward to our next visit!
