Ambrosia: A Decadent Holiday Dessert To Share This Christmas Ailyn Quesada Contributor Miami Mom Collective

Ambrosia is a dish that brings back so many memories of my childhood. My mom would always make this dessert for almost all of the gatherings we would have. For the longest time, I called this dessert “marshmallow salad” because that’s what my mom would call it. Little did I know that this wonderful medley of fruity marshmallowy goodness was not called marshmallow salad. One day after posting a picture of my “marshmallow salad,” a random follower reached out to me and told me the correct name for it. My mind was blown. I had heard of the word ambrosia before but never knew it was that dish my mom would make for all of our parties. Just the kind of thing that happens to me. What I love about this dish is that it’s the easiest dessert to prepare and takes little prep work. Here’s my ambrosia recipe:

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. tub of sour cream
  • 1 block of cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 16 oz. tub of whipped topping
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 pack of small marshmallows
  • 1 lb container of natural strawberries (cubed)
  • 2 lbs green grapes (cut in halves)
  • 1 tablespoon strawberry gelatin

Bring It Together

  • Mix the sour cream, cream cheese, whipped topping, and sweetened condensed milk in a large bowl. I recommend using a handheld mixer to get all of the clumps of cream cheese smooth and perfectly blended.
  • Add washed fruit to the mix above. Strawberries and grapes are my favorite fruit to add to this dish, but in reality, you can add whichever fruit you like best.
  • Add the marshmallows and strawberry gelatin. The strawberry gelatin will give it a pinky hue but the strawberry flavoring will enhance the taste.

No matter what you call this dish, ambrosia or marshmallow salad, this dessert is always a hit at all of my parties. There are many variations of this dessert on the internet, but I’m totally biased when I say that my ambrosia recipe is the best. Most of the other recipes add sugar instead of sweetened condensed milk. Who can resist the taste of sweetened condensed milk?

Needless to say, ambrosia is a timeless dessert that is making a comeback to the dessert table this holiday season. Make sure to impress your family with this decadent dessert that will not disappoint.
