It’s the Fourth of July, and we’ve got a super fun, symbolic treat that will be the perfect addition to your firework festivities: firework skewers! Best of all, it includes some of our favorite healthy superfoods and your kids can prepare it themselves.
These are also great for Memorial Day or any USA event or activity–even Presidents’ Day in February as year-round fruit is a sweet benefit of #MiamiLiving.
Check out the simple ingredients and directions below. Adapt the size based on how young or old your crew is. Make these red, white, and blue firework skewers as easy (or as complicated) as you’d like. Enjoy!
Ingredients
Marshmallows
Berries
Skewer sticks or chopsticks for toddlers and preschoolers
Mini:
Bag of mini marshmallows
Raspberries
Blueberries
Skewer sticks or chopsticks
Standard or Large:
Bag of standard, s’mores or oversized marshmallows
Strawberries
Blackberries
Skewer sticks
Directions:
Wash and dry the berries.
Cut off tops from strawberries and slightly core with the knife to make a heart shape
Sort through and disregard any berries that are too soft to hold up on the skewers.
Once the berries are completely dry, slide the berries and marshmallows onto the skewers, alternating to create any patterns of red, white, and blue that you and your kids enjoy.
To prevent fruit juices from staining the marshmallows, designate one child to berries and one to marshmallow duty, or designate your right hand to one and left hand to the other.
Extra Credit: Make an American flag! Add blackberries or blueberries to the tops of only four or so of the skewers, and keep the other skewers all red and white. Lay all of the skewers flat on a platter in the shape of our flag!
