Holiday season is in FULL swing and for many, December means squeezing in that onneeee last family trip or vacation before the New Year.
But for those of you who like to hit the gym and stay active, you may be worried about how you are going to get your workout in.
No gym? No problem!
There’s no excuse for not staying physically active while traveling. Things may be a little bit different; you may have to miss your afternoon pilates class or weight training session, but there are still plenty of other ways to stay active.
Think of “different” as an opportunity to try something new and enjoy a change of scenery. Hey, you may find that you like this new “thing” better than what you are currently doing each day!
Here are a few ideas to get you going:
Idea #1: Look for a local park. You may find some outdoor workout equipment or jogging path.
Idea #2: If you are staying in a resort or hotel, check to see if they have a gym that you can use. The gym equipment may be limited in some places, but you can still get in a decent workout. Try downloading some workouts on YouTube for inspiration!
Idea #3: You can also do a workout right in your hotel room. Bring resistance bands in your suitcase or go back to basics with a circuit of pushups, sit-ups, and lunges for a great workout. And who needs a Stair Master when you can easily work up a swear climbing flights of real ones!
Idea #4: Yoga doesn’t require any equipment and can be done from anywhere too. Get in a few sun salutations on the beach, when you wake up or before bed. Here’s a link for instructions: https://www.yogajournal.com/videos/salute-the-sun
Idea #5: If swimming is your thing, take advantage of the ocean or use the resort / hotel pool to get some laps in. Swimming is a great cardiovascular workout and works every muscle in the body! Plan ahead and pack your goggles and bathing suit.
Idea #6: Another option is to look into outdoor activities at your destination. Try a popular hike, plan a trip to a nearby lake, go canoeing, horseback riding or take advantage of the free classes for first-time visitors that many yoga studios offer!
The key is to be creative and think outside of the box.
Just because you’re away from home and your routine doesn’t mean you can’t be active in other ways. Plus, getting in some form of exercise will:
-Help you stay sane when the kids are driving you nuts.
-Help to refresh you from the inside out.
-Boost your metabolism (Cause’ let’s talk about all that food/alcohol that will be indulged in while traveling! Because of that workout you got in the morning, that metabolism of yours will be burning hot, hot, hot so you won’t feel so bad about that extra drink or rich dessert!)
Happy Vacationing!
