Halloween Costumes: Dressing Up With Family

0

Every year, as Halloween rolls around, the question is What are we dressing up as? My family is huge and, 6 years ago, we decided to start coming up with large family costumes. It is difficult to get such a large group to agree but, so far, we have been pretty good at compromising.

Costumes Throughout the Years

2018 was our first family Halloween costume. We went with Toy Story. This group costume has endless possibilities because you can be any of the toys in the movie. The kids were our main characters: Buzz, Woody, and Jessie. My grandparents were Barbie and Ken (my favorite part). We had Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Hamm, Rex, Alien, Sid, and the green Army men!

In 2019 we did Superheroes and Villains! Do you want to be good or evil? This group costume can be for a very large group since there are a variety of characters. We may have mixed franchises, please forgive us.

In 2020, the pandemic rolled around but we DID NOT want to cancel Halloween. We set up an in-house trick-or-treat. We had an adult stand behind every door in the house and had the kids go knocking. This year we dressed up as the characters from Peter Pan. My sister was pregnant, which made for the perfect Smee. We had a tiny Peter Pan and the cutest Tinker Bell and Captain Hook.

2021 rolled around and so did the Tornado in the Wizard of Oz! My sister and I were the good and bad witches. We had the Lollipop Guild, the yellow brick road, and the tiniest scarecrow! And yes, there is an actual human in that house!

By 2022, we were a little stumped on what to do. Although, I have never seen Star Wars, the boys in the family were very convincing and, when else would I have an excuse to paint myself gold? My daughter was Princess Leia and my grandma was the older version. When doing family costumes, try to use all your resources and incorporate all ages.

Last year was my favorite. We did Pokémon. Gotta catch them all! Again, another set of endless characters. We even had our own Poke Ball!

As the years go by, we always feel like we won’t be able to top the last. The great thing about large family Halloween costumes is that you have a lot of creative minds thinking of what is next! If you are trying to come up with your next costume, just remember to have fun!

What will we come up with this year?? Do you have any ideas? Share below and have a happy Halloween!
