DIY Easter Decorations: A Few Simple & Festive Ideas

4

I always love a good DIY project. And whenever there’s a holiday coming up I find myself looking at Pinterest for some good DIY ideas. I really love the whole process. From scrolling through the internet, making a plan, buying the stuff you need. And finally starting to make it. Since we’re all in this quarantine situation this year I ordered what I needed from Amazon

Since I’m Norwegian my interior style is very Scandinavian. That means simple and clean, and not too many colors. But if you would like you could easily make them more colorful.

Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays. Back home in Norway, Easter always meant that spring was just around the corner. And for a person who’s not really into the cold winter, that always got me in a better mood. This Easter is our first one here in Miami so that makes it a special one. And because of this pandemic that we have, it’s extra special. So I decided I really wanted to make the best of it. And to make some new decorations to have in our home is one of the things I have done, and I would love to share them with you.

Paper Bunny String

For this one you have to have some colored paper and some sort of string. I used a hemp string. The first thing you do is draw a bunny onto the paper. I used two different shapes. And then you just cut them out. How many you make depends on how long you want your string to be. After I cut them out I made a hole in both ears so that I could hang them on the string. You don’t want to make the holes to big because then they will all slide into the middle of the string when you hang them up.

Easter Egg Bunnies

For this one, I used some black wooden eggs that I bought from Target before we all got quarantined. You can use booth wooden eggs or paper mache eggs. But make sure that they are flat on the bottom so that they can stand up. Mine were already painted, but it could be fun to have the kids paint them.

You also need wire and some glue. I used hot glue because I think that’s easier to work with.

I used the wire to make the ears, and I glued them onto the eggs. Make sure that the glue has set before you remove your fingers. Or else they will fall off. When it comes to these DIY decorations imperfection is what makes them even more special so don’t worry if the ears look a bit funny.

Wooden Eggs and Markers

Growing up I always painted eggs together with my mom, my sister and my brother before Easter. We used real eggs, and it gave us all a headache when we had to empty them. That was before the egg blower pump. After we finished painting them one or two would occasionally get dropped so that they cracked. That’s why I find it so much easier to just use wooden eggs. And instead of paint, this time I used markers because using paint means a lot more mess. But if you want the kids to take part I know mine would have loved to use paint.

I only used a black marker and made some easy patterns. But that is just because it goes better with the rest of our interior. My Mom always hung our eggs in the window at our kitchen, and I think that gives a good Easter feeling to the kitchen. So to be able to hang my eggs I used a wire to make a hook that I glued on with hot glue.

Paper Bunny Ornaments

The last things I made this year were some Easter bunny ornaments. I used the same shape that I used for the Easter bunny string. But this time I folded each bunny in half, and I glued five and five together. I used hot glue for this too, but here you could easily use regular school glue. This would also be fun to make in different colors, and it’s easy to include the kids. My three-year-old girl LOVES to glue things together, so this is perfect for her.

I hope you find some of this inspiring, and that you and your family can spend some time together making some Easter decorations. This is going to be a very different and strange Easter, so I encourage you to make it an extra special one filled with fun activities, good food, a lot of candy and a lot of love! Feel free to tag me in your pictures if you decide to make some of the decorations.

Wishing you all a happy and blessed Easter!!

Love, Rachel
