February is chock-full of some great holidays.

I mean any month that lets you celebrate Nutella is a great month in my opinion! But, did you know that February 21st is recognized as Gratitude Day? I honestly did not until I started researching, but I definitely think it should be something we all celebrate!

Okay, so how do I do this?

There are no right and wrong ways to go about this. You can simply state the things that you are grateful for in your mind. Or you can write them down in a journal. I find that writing them down makes them more accessible, especially on your not-so-good days. Being able to read them trains your mind to seek out the positive things in your daily life.

Some people create a vision board of all the things they dream of, but you can also do a gratitude board where you focus on all the amazing things you have. (Hello girls’ night activity!!!)

Journaling

I am not sure that is actually a word, but in my world it is. Now, I know you are thinking isn’t it only adolescent girls that write in their diary? No, it can be you too. Again, there is no right or wrong. I try to journal weekly with a list of amazing things that happened that week. Some people do it daily, some multiple times a day. It is honestly whatever works for you!

Why is focusing on gratitude so important?

Well according to Harvard University Health, ” …gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.” Sounds great to me! Alas us Mamas have piles of laundry, dishes in the sink, work demands, fitness demands, well basically a million demands to deal with on a daily basis. Yes, it is exhausting and overwhelming, but I strongly believe incorporating a gratitude routine into your life will help ease some of that stress. And hey, apparently Gratitude Day is followed by Margarita Day on February 22nd! So ease your stress with a margarita in one hand and a journal in the other!
