May the 4th be With You: 4 Fun Crafts to Make With Your Kids

0

When my husband and I started dating, one thing we learned early on was that we were both Star Wars fans. Now as parents, we naturally want our children to share that same love for Star Wars. We have started slowly introducing them to the movies and characters. That can work sometimes, but I don’t know of too many kids that can sit through a single sci-fi movie or as my husband calls it a space western, let alone 11! So, if you want to expose them without over-saturating them, using crafts could be a wonderful way to expose them to a galaxy far far away. This is also a terrific way to celebrate May the 4th with the entire household.

  1. BB-8 Paper Plates

I’m a little biased with this craft because droids are by far my favorite characters. From R2D2 to BB8, they are just the dependable sidekicks you need and they’re pretty cute too. Just grab 3 paper plates, orange and black construction paper, scissors, glue, pencils, and something to trace a circle. Use one plate for the bottom half of his body and parents help your little ones cut the plate for BB-8’s head into a semi-circle. Use orange and black construction paper to cut out the body symbols and glue them onto the plate. The black is also used for his eyes. Use the pencil or gray colored pencil for the silver outlines on his body.

  1. Painted Rocks

Have you ever seen a painted rock at a park? These are super fun to make. My girls especially like running around at a local park to find their favorite ones. Why not paint them as your favorite characters? If you can’t find any character-shaped ones, get some flat ones and paint your favorite phrases such as “May the force be with you,” or “I Love you,” “I know.” These can later be used as gifts for any other Star Wars fans in your family or circle of friends. Get as creative as you want with your kiddos. Maybe even create your own droid!

  1. Pool Noodle Light Sabers

What is a Jedi without his lightsaber? No worries, I got you! Here’s a fun pool noodle alternative for your little Jedis. This is inexpensive to make and now with summer approaching, pool noodles can be found at your local dollar store. Have your little one pick out their favorite color and mommies cut the noodle to the desired length. Later, using duct tape, wrap one end of the pool noodle to make the handle of the lightsaber. Add black electric tape on top of the duct tape horizontally and vertically as you wish to add the effect of the buttons and hardware. All that’s left now is to find the high ground!

  1. Star Wars Sensory Bin

Another fun thing to do with your kids for May the 4th is your very own Star Wars sensory bin. You can get a plastic bin and fill it with kinetic sand, Play-Doh, or slime and add your favorite Star Wars toys. I myself have my own figurines of different Star Wars characters that I get to share with my girls for this activity. This also gives me a chance to show them the different characters as well as their names and roles in the movies.
