Memorial Day: Making It Memorable for the Whole Family

0

Memorial Day is a U.S. federal holiday that is celebrated every year on the last Monday of May. This year make sure to make Memorial Day a memorable day for the whole family.

It’s a day where we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving our country. Last year our very own Dianna Hill wrote a great post about Memorial Day. I strongly recommend you go and check it out!

Originally it was known as Decoration Day, and it originated in the years following the Civil War. In 1971 it became a federal holiday, and today we all know it as Memorial Day. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.

Things To Do During Memorial Day Weekend

Miami is the perfect place to spend Memorial Day weekend. There are a lot of things to do, even though we still have COVID. But if you don’t feel like attending big crowded events, you can always enjoy our beautiful weather, have a backyard bbq, and spend time with family and friends. After all, that’s what life’s really about. Making it memorable for the whole family.

National Salute to America’s Heroes

This is a must-see if you’re in Miami this weekend! It’s a two-day event that features all five branches of our military, as well as first responders. And best of all, it all takes place on the beautiful shores of Miami Beach

Great American Beach Party

This may not sound so family-friendly, but trust me, it is. This takes place on Fort Lauderdale Beach, and you get to experience everything from live music to a classic car show. You can even take part in a sandcastle contest and they have a Kidz Zone.

There will also be a tribute to the U.S. Armed forces, and The U.S. Military Parachute Team will also join in.

A Night Out

Why not sneak in a little date night during the Memorial Day weekend? As parents, we all need to have some time-out from time to time. At least I know my husband and I do. And why not take this holiday weekend and spend some time with your other half? Book a babysitter, make a reservation, and enjoy each other’s company.

However you choose to spend this Memorial Day weekend make sure to take some time to reflect on the sacrifices that our brave men and women make every day. Our freedom didn’t come easy.

Happy Memorial Day! Blessings from my family to yours.
