Create a piece of art that shows what kindness means to you.

Did you know November 13th is World Kindness Day? Now more than ever, kindness is super important. So let’s take a moment out of our busy lives to brighten someone’s day.

We live in a time where we are more divided than ever, but we can come together and support each other with just a simple act of kindness. I tell my daughters to treat others the way they would want to be treated and I really hope it‘s something they always remember. There will come a time when they will be disappointed or disheartened. But if they are kind to others, they are playing a part in making the world a kinder, gentler, more peaceful place — and I think we can all agree that the world needs all the kindness we can get!

In celebration of World Kindness Day, let’s spread kindness like confetti!

We all have tough days, but we can be a ray of sunshine for someone — not just on this day, but every single day. You just never know what someone may be going through in their personal life. A small act of kindness may be what someone needs to brighten their day. Let’s join together to spread positivity and random acts of kindness.

In case you’re wondering how World Kindness Day became a thing, let’s take a look back to see how it all came about. According to Wikipedia, the purpose of this day is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” This international day of observance was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a group made up of non-governmental organizations to champion kindness across our societies. Slowly, many countries started adopting this day and now it’s celebrated across the globe.

Want to join in and spread some extra acts of kindness?

Here are 15 ways you can celebrate with your kids:

  1. Work together on an art project that shows what kindness means to you
  2. Buy someone special an inspiring book
  3. Send your child’s teacher a handmade gift
  4. Make a list with your child of things we can do to be kind to one another
  5. Leave a surprise for the postal worker or other delivery person
  6. Be kind to the environment and plant a tree together
  7. Bake a cake or some cookies for your neighbor
  8. Write a heartfelt letter to a loved one
  9. Send a surprise care package to someone with things that would bring a smile to their face
  10. Collect donations for a family in need
  11. Reach out to a friend and spend quality time together
  12. Plan an outing to your child’s favorite spot
  13. Start a gratitude list and add something to it every day
  14. Encourage your child to reach out to someone who doesn’t have a lot of friends
  15. Start a kindness movement by handing out positive messages and asking others to pass it on

The truth is we should strive to spread kindness all year round. But this unofficial holiday is just another reason to do a little extra this month. How will you celebrate World Kindness Day?
