Unique party themes are in… time to get creative!

No One Has Done This Before…

I recently designed this party. At first, I had no idea how I was going to do it. My super sweet client called me and told me that she wanted to celebrate a double themed birthday for her boys. When I asked her for the themes, she mentioned that her older boy loved the Willy Wonka theme, and her youngest was into dinosaurs. Both themes were great to work with, but how on earth was I going to marry the two?

After scoping the place out, I went to the drawing board and created my sketch. I consulted with my prop shop to help bring my vision to life. I decided to combine both themes with a lava/chocolate shooting volcano. So I used balloons to create the effect and it truly looked magical. The entire backdrop area measured 16 feet wide and stood 10 feet tall. It was breathtaking when you walked into their Florida room.

Curating the Details

The most important things about the parties I design are the small details. Although this cake table was married at the center, they still had their own separate entity.

Dino-Mite

The dinosaur side required more foliage and rustic decor. I incorporated small details such as dinosaur eggs in a nest with moss, fake fern leaves and vines. Then I used stained crates for dimension and placed the cake on an acrylic cube filled with balloons that were the same color as the “lava.” I added some toy dinosaurs to give it a dramatic look and utilized tree trunk slabs to keep the rustic look going.

Personalized sweets that are too good to eat!

I also love using sweets to decorate the cake table. This is something that looks beautiful and is a hit with the kids (…and adults). We had some chocolate-dipped Rice Krispies treats that spelled out the birthday boy’s name. We also had marshmallow pops, chocolate dipped Oreos, cake pops, and iced cookies.

Willy Wonka

The Willy Wonka side was a lot more quirky and colorful. Just like the dinosaur side of the cake table, I used an acrylic cube filled with “chocolate” balloons and I painted the crates I used for dimension in purple. I incorporated a few of the movie characters on the table and I used actual Willy Wonka Bars. Well… they weren’t real Wonka Bars but I used Hershey’s chocolate bars and purchased the wrappers on Etsy along with the golden ticket.

The sweets were so fun to design because we had Wonka top hat marshmallow pops, golden ticket cookies and Everlasting Gobstopper cake pops. Since everything was candy-related I was able to incorporate plenty of actual candy as decor.

Do You Dare to be Different?

When it comes to planning a party, no idea is too crazy. The beauty of designing birthday parties is that there are no rules on how you do it. What matters is that your child enjoys his or her birthday party with family and friends.
