LET’S TACO ABOUT MONEY!

On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, Miami Mom Collective hosted a Financial Literacy Luncheon at the colorful and beautiful Pilo’s Tequila Garden in Wynwood. The luncheon was arranged by our partner Edward Dennis of NPC Financial, a Miami Dad with a desire to help moms plan wisely for their families and small businesses.

THE VENUE: PILO’S TACOS

If you haven’t made your way to Pilo’s Tacos, do yourself a favor and make plans to visit. IMMEDIATELY.

The vibrant colors and artwork make the indoor-outdoor venue feel like you stepped into a cool art gallery. The restaurant is even equipped with a DJ, so you know it’s really the place to be at night!

Derek Gonzalez & Edward Dennis

When you hear the story of how owner, Derek Gonzalez, runs his restaurant, it’ll be sure to capture your heart as well. Derek shared with all of us how and why he founded Pilo’s after his beloved aunt who had special needs. Along with his personal goal of hiring and empowering those of special abilities, he also seeks to raise awareness. As a special needs mama myself, this mission touched my heart and made me love this place even more!

As if that wasn’t enough, the Pilo’s Tacos venue itself is BEAUTIFUL. The colors and murals in the outdoor space where we had our luncheon made us feel like we were dining in the trendiest garden in Wynwood.

Be sure to try my personal favorite: the queso dip and carne asada street tacos. (YUM!) Perfectly paired with the Pilo’s house margarita, it hit the spot!

FINANCIAL LITERACY

Although the venue alone was enough to make the event a hit, we were really there to TACO ’bout money! NPC Financial came ready to empower and equip us moms with financial information that many of us didn’t previously know about! Entrepreneurs, full-time working moms, part-time working moms, stay-at-home moms and small business owners all came ready with questions for Edward. From family finances, to college planning, life insurance polices, to small business valuations – we had questions and NPC Financial had answers!

What was especially helpful was all the insight on benefits that not many people talk about or even know about! Did you know there is Special Needs Planning? Edward also provided clarity around Life Insurance, 529 College Saving Plans, and he even explained the differences between Florida Pre-Pay and options like the “Gerber Plan.”

If there’s one thing I was reminded, it’s how simple and easy a little TLC for our wallets can really help us financially in the long run!

THE COMMUNITY

We were amongst some of the most intelligent mommas I know. It’s always fun to gather with the Miami Mom Collective community. They work with the best partners and I love how they introduce us to new businesses at every event! These Miami Mamas went the extra-mile to make the event special!

Illiett Ojeda of Chasinbalance helped coordinate the event logistics. Thank you to Lifestyle Photographer, Sasha de Almagro, who captured the event beautifully. (Don’t forget to check out our Facebook Album to see all of the photos!)

Johanna from One Rose FL set up a gorgeous fall-themed DIY Flower Bar. She hand-wrapped bouquets for each mom to take home.

THE SWAG

What is a Miami Mom Collective Event without incredible swag and giveaways?

As if the wealth of knowledge and momma lunch were not enough, everyone left with a bag full of tasty treats and fun products to try! (Check out these local and national brands we know you will love by clicking the links to follow them on social media!)

Thank you to Jovē for keeping us hydrated with their alkaline water – crafted to specifically hydrate your cells and skin!

Katherine from Phia’s Bows treated every Mom to one of her handmade bows for themselves and their little girls.

What’s a swag bag without some sweet treats? Dessert Bites Miami wowed the crowd with her custom cactus cakesicles. Sweet To The Hedge provided the cutest mini cookie sets perfectly themed to match our luncheon topic! Everything was almost too pretty to eat (almost!)

Moms also enjoyed snacking on bakerly pancakes-to-go and crepes-to-go! They were the perfect compliment to Chameleon Coffee (it was National Coffee Day and we had to celebrate!)

Thank you to Hannah of Oak and Owl Candle Co for providing candles for every mom! Each mom also got to take home the coolest shoe charms from 4Kix!

Colores De Flores Co created keychains with the Miami Mom Collective logo on them (we’ll never lose our keys again, maybe!)

THE GIVEAWAYS

Miami Mom Collective loves to feature local brands for special event giveaways.

It’s always exciting to be a giveaway winner at a Miami Mom Collective event. A huge thank you to this event’s giveaway partners.

One lucky winner won a beautiful music box from Shop Music Box Official. Another winner won a beautiful pumpkin bouquet by One Rose FL and one Mom took home a gift card to Seeds We Sow, Miami’s First & Only Organic & Natural Children’s Boutique!

One of our Contributing Writers won the beautiful bag from Latin Roots Market that we chose to use as holder of the raffles!

Our Grand Prize winner received a Spa Treatment at Fontainebleau’s Lapis Spa!

We guarantee that every mom went home with a fresh look on their finances and at least 1 new mom friend. Not sure a better mid-day lunch date exists!
