A Local’s Guide to Moms Night Out in North Miami

0

Okay ladies in North Miami, this one’s for you!  As I have been thinking about some of the reasons I love living in Miami Shores (and in Miami in general) as a working mom, one thing I love are my mom date nights out, sans kiddos and hubbies.  We love our kiddos and hubbies, but we also love a few hours of fun with friends, amiright? Of course I am.

Without further ado, I bring to you a handful of my favorite spots for a girlfriends night out in and around North Miami and Miami Shores (and some surrounding hoods!), in no particular order.

1.) Shopping at Mrs. Mandolin and then dinner at Mandolin.

Unless you live under a rock, you know Mandolin has got to be one of the best restaurants in all of Miami.  I’d even argue all of the U. S. of A.  For real, it’s that good.  But now there is an extra bonus – Mrs. Mandolin.  Oh dear Lord is this shop the cutest!  From textiles to home goods to unique jewelry and clothing, running here and getting your retail therapy on before a glass of rose and dinner is the best.

2.) If you find yourself sitting at the bar at Sherwood’s experiencing their cocktail culture and eclectically – and antiquely – designed atmosphere whilst bossa nova music plays and you and your best friend get to catch up, consider yourself lucky.

I love Sherwood’s for its unassuming exterior that invites you in and makes you never want to leave, thanks to warm hospitality, delicious food and drinks.

3.) The beach.Yes, the actual beach.

Okay, Miami Shores doesn’t have a beach but 20 minutes due east (15 if you speed but don’t do that/I never do that) there is a glorious beach.  Not that long ago my best friend and I brought a bottle of wine and some snacks, threw some blankets down and talked and dreamed and laughed while the sun was setting behind us, glimmering the most beautiful pink and blue lighting on the ocean.  Ladies, we ALL need to do this more in Miami.  It’s free, it’s easy and it’s arguably the most beautiful setting you will ever see.

4.) If you are a few months post-baby-delivery and oddly craving beer – sidebar, am I the only one that wanted to drink beer like a trucker right after Zoey was born? – Tap 79 must be on your list.

Deemed gastropub and local beer hall, this place serves upscale bar food, has easy parking, is 5 minutes from Miami Shores and serves beers galore.  It won’t disappoint. Besides, is there anything better than a bunch of moms bellied up at the bar drinking beer on a Tuesday night?

5.) I have to say, one of my favorite things to do – with or without my mom friends – is go to the movies.

If you want to spend approximately one million dollars (it’s money well spent, promise), go to iPic off of 163thstreet in North Miami Beach.   Akin to a luxury hotel for the movie industry, you feel spoiled and pampered the second you walk in.  Like you just got into LIV via the VIP line because you “know people in Miami.”  Only it’s 100 times better because it’s not LIV and it’s 2.5 hours of silence, entertainment, surprisingly delicious food and a killer wine list.  Don’t let the picture on the website fool you and NO, you do not have to wear a purple silky dress with stilettos.  Yoga paints, a gap tee shirt and flip flops is more than acceptable.  Again, better than LIV.

6.) Last but not least, Ironside Pizza.

The first time I stepped foot into Ironside I knew I would be able to live in Miami for the unforeseeable future.  Ironside is a European oasis tucked away in the Little River neighborhood serving up the best version of true Italian pizza in all of Miami aaannnnndddd it’s BYOB to boot. I have eaten there approximately 57 times in 4 years and I plan to get into triple digits soon.  It’s the best moms night out, birthday celebration destination, catching up with an old friend, and it’s perfect to bring the kiddos. I know, I know, this is all about moms night out but just FYI on the kiddo front 😉
