Restaurants in Homestead: My Top 5

0

Homestead is located south of Miami–just north of the Florida Keys but still very much Miami-Dade County. Although very often overlooked as you’re fighting traffic while heading down to the Keys, it is where I now call home. This was not always the case as I’ve lived most of my life in Miami. However, after moving down south in 2016, it has really grown on me. There is surprisingly such a large variety of locally-owned restaurants in Homestead that it’s hard to choose just one. That being said, I have narrowed it down to my top 5, at the moment. I have also tried to incorporate different types of food.

# 1 Portofino Coal Fired Pizza

Located on the very central Campbell Drive, just west of the Turnpike, Portofino is a yummy option. Especially if you’re craving pizza. They have a wide variety of pizzas which are all made, you guessed it, in a big coal-fired brick oven. This family-friendly restaurant has options for kids as well. Don’t forget to try their delicious wings and house-made meatballs.

# 2 Shivers BBQ

If you love some good ol’ BBQ, you have to make your way down to Homestead and eat at Shivers. This is a family-owned and operated restaurant that has been a Homestead staple for the past 60 years. I love their pulled pork and beef brisket but I think what I love most of all are their sides. I can never make up my mind because they are all so delicious. This is a family-style sit-in restaurant that the kids will love as well. If you’re looking to have BBQ at your next event, be sure to check out their catering menu.

# 3 La Cruzada

Homestead is known for its Mexican food. La Cruzada is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants to eat at. The food is as deliciously authentic as the décor. You can choose from indoor or outdoor seating. This is conveniently located right next to City Hall. Once you’re done with dinner, you can cross the street and have some ice cream at La Michoacana. This is another kid-friendly restaurant where you can take your little ones.

# 4 Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery

Although kid-friendly, if you’re looking for a good place for a date night, make sure to check out Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery. Not only is it a winery and brewery, but now there is a restaurant with a wide variety of different foods on its menu. You can also enjoy their in-house wine by the glass. Fun fact: None of their wine is made of grapes but rather locally grown fruits, such as lychee, mango, and even avocado. You can book a wine tasting, beer tasting, and tour of the winery.

# 5 Chefs On The Run

If you’re searching for a good burger, go to Chefs on the Run. This restaurant has been nominated as one of the top ten hidden gems of South Florida. Although there are other items on their menu like their delicious bowls, their burgers are what they are known for. This is located in the heart of downtown Homestead, just east of ShowBiz Cinemas on E Mowry Drive.
