One Year as a Miami Mom & How We Explored Our New City

1

I can’t believe that it’s almost been one year since we first moved here to Miami!! July 15th, 2019, that was the day it all started. And what a journey it has been. If you were to ask me if it turned out as we had pictured it, I’m not sure. Because I don’t really think we knew what to expect. But if you ask me to sum it all up in one word, I think I would say blessed. So here come some of the things we as a family have been exploring here in Miami.

One year of exploring Miami as a family.

Our first year here has been a really good one, filled with a lot of adventures, new friends, and new wisdom. So in honor of our one year anniversary, I want to take you down memory lane to see how we have been exploring Maimi. And maybe you will discover some new things you and your family can do. Because trust me, there are a lot of things to explore as a family here in Miami.

Monster trucks aren’t just for boys.

One of our first weekends here we drove up to Sunrise and went to Monster Jam. We did it because Jayden really wanted to go, but it turned out that Olivia was the one who loved it most. She was super excited!!

Out into the wilderness.

If you ever get the chance to go out to the Everglades with someone who has their own boat you should! We have been to the Everglades several times on the tourist boats. But when we got to join Manny on his boat we got to experience something totally different!! And we had a blast. We went deeper in and got to see some of the private properties out there. Jayden got to fish, and we had a BBQ. It was a great experience for the whole family and a great start to our adventure here in Miami.

A day at the beach is always a good idea.

Our kids love to go to the beach, play in the sand, and enjoy the warm water. Even though Miami Beach is a beautiful beach, it’s not our first pick when it comes to beaches. So instead we drove down to the Keys and went to Islamorada. A beautiful small beach that’s perfect for families. There are several beautiful beaches down in the Keys, and I strongly recommend you to check them out. Our kids loved to be there.

Football is never wrong.

My husband and I have been Dolphins fans for many years, and we love to go to games. So in September, we went to a Hurricanes game with the kids. It was a hit. They got to buy some merch and they were so proud. It turned out to be a great experience for all of the family.

Our first Halloween.

We have been celebrating Halloween in Norway as well, but it’s something totally different to celebrate it here. We had never been to a corn maze before, and we had never been at a pumpkin patch before. So we really loved the day when we went down to Burr’s Berry Farm. If you haven’t been there, I strongly recommend you go this fall. It’s beautiful down there!

Another great tip is to go up to Orlando and to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. That was a lot of fun for the whole family. Dress up, and have a good time together.

I have always loved to decorate and dress up so Halloween was a lot of fun for all of us. The kids were ecstatic, and it was one of their best nights.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

We have spent Christmas in Florida before, but never without family. So we decided that we wanted to make the most out of it.  Again we went to Burr’s Berry Farm, and we went to Santas’ Enchanted Forest. Both of them are great for both kids and parents. It’s impossible not to get in the Christmas mood when you’re there.

Alligators all over the place.

In January we spent a day in Everglades National Park again. This time we went to Royal Palm. There you can walk around and see a lot of the wildlife that’s in the Everglades. We saw a lot of alligators and birds. It was a lot of fun for both the kids and us parents. We have always loved to be out in nature, and the day we spent down there felt really refreshing.
