Miami Mom Collective Welcomes MIA Mom Andrea Abraham

2

Hi Miami Mamas! My name is Andrea Abraham and I’m so happy to be part of a community as a Miami Mom Collective contributor where other moms can thrive and learn from one another.

Miami

I grew up in Miami from a young age.  My parents are from the Caribbean, Trinidad and Guyana, and once married, they moved all over the U.S. before I was born.  I was fortunate enough to grow up in the last city they settled down in, beautiful Miami.  After four years away in college at the University of Florida, I returned to enjoy a fun-filled life with friends from all different walks of life.  After many years of work and play in Miami, I left for Los Angeles and then found myself in New York City.

While in NYC, I married my husband whom I met in Vegas, and gave birth to two daughters.  After traveling home to Miami on numerous vacations, we both knew it was time to return for good.  I recently returned to Miami with my family, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be in the sunshine and warmth of this city.  As a family, we love being able to enjoy the outdoors year-round and all the family-centered activities you can find here.  I also love the vibrance and work-life balance found here in Miami.

Mom

Surprisingly, I actually did not grow up with the desire to be a mom.  I wasn’t even really sure if motherhood was ever for me.  After being with my husband for a few years, I knew it was something I wanted for us because I knew what a great father he would be.  Once I decided I was ready, we had two beautiful girls, now ages 5 & 3.

As soon as I was pregnant the first time, I finally felt I was meant to be a mom.  My first daughter slept through the night, though.  She made me think motherhood was easy, but my second daughter would soon teach me otherwise!  Raising my daughters has been a wonderful blessing and a challenge all at once.  It has taught me so much about myself, my mental health, and what I am truly capable of.  Being home during the pandemic and trying to work while taking care of my then 3 and 1-year-old daughters really caused me to question life as a working mom.  In the end, I persevered and got through it.  My career is important to me, and I want my girls to see me thrive in it so that I can one day be a role model to them.

Collective

At the beginning of 2021, I moved back to Miami and was ready to find a community of moms to share my experiences with.  I found MMC and attended a few social events and was so taken by the friendliness and openness of everyone I met.  I knew this was a great group of women that I wanted to get to know more.  Even as a mom of two, I am constantly learning about being a mom.  I want to be around others whom I can learn from and share my experiences with as well.

I am happy to be a part of this community and share my journey as a working mom.  Finding other working moms was integral in my career to learn from and I want to encourage other moms to pursue their goals and dreams as well.  We are all learning together and together we can do it all!
