Meet Jessica Alvarez-Ducos

Hello Miami Mommas! My name is Jessica Alvarez-Ducos. It is an honor to join Miami Mom Collective’s contributor team. I was born in Havana, Cuba. Around the age of four, my parents decided to take a leap towards their dreams and came to set their roots in Miami, Florida. I studied International Relations, Political Science, and Psychology at Florida International University. (Go PANTHERS!) My passion is first party insurance law. I have many interests including crafting, kayaking, hiking and of course traveling.

I met my husband in 2006 through a mutual friend when I was 16 years old. Shortly after we started dating. Before we knew it we were engaged and married by 21 years of age. After 10 years together, we decided it was time to start our family. In October 2016, we had our daughter Ashley. Becoming a mother was everything I could have wished for and so much more.

Miami

Warm weather, palm trees, ocean breeze, sandy toes, croquetas and the aroma of fresh cafecito. Miami is a melting pot of so many cultures and lifestyles. I first arrived in Miami at the age of four. Truth be told, all of my memories root back to this city. Some of the sweetest moments I remember include my family enjoying great food, gathering and playing dominoes. Above all, this is the city where I have learned so much and have lived so fully. Miami is where I first fell in love, graduated, purchased our first home and had our spunky daughter Ashley. The city that made me a proud Miami Mom.

Mom

Motherhood is the most magical and inspiring thing that has happened to me. When Jairo and I decided to conceive, we knew it was time. It is said that “…you are never truly ready to become parents”. However, we felt as ready as we were going to ever be. After months of trying, we found out we had conceived the morning of our flight to Canada. That remains one of our most memorable trips. I recall looking at the breathtaking Niagara Falls knowing we were going to be parents. It was breathtaking. We were truly over the moon! Ashley is the light of our world. She offers us so much joy and excitement about life.

Collective

Being a part of a community is so important. As moms, the journey can sometimes feel lonely. We wear so many hats and stretch ourselves to handle and take care of so much. Sometimes it can be easy to forget that we also matter. Time together, moms to moms is so beautiful. Having a collective community that we can turn to for support, advice and reassurance is so nice. After all, we are better together.  Joining this amazing community full of strong, energetic, hard working, go-getting spectacular mommas is such a milestone. I look forward to contributing in any way that I can.
