Miami Beach

Hi! My name is Laura Kennedy. I was born in Cali, Colombia, and moved to Miami at the age of two. Some would say I’m a Miami Native. However, I consider myself a melting pot of both with a generous helping of American. I grew up in a suburb 45 minutes west of the Atlantic ocean called Kendall and became a proud Florida State Seminole graduate in 2005. My degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering landed me a job as Project Manager at American Express Travel in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

During those years I got to know it in a whole new light. South Beach wasn’t all about clubs and high end cars. It also had this low key, laid back side to it that I completely connected with. It felt like an escape from the crazy city side full of traffic and stress.

To this day crossing the bridge to the beach is one my favorite things in the world. The stunning bay views filled with boats, and lined up with waterfront properties and the feeling that you’re leaving all your worries on the city side and getting a fresh start as soon as you hit Alton Road is undeniable. Driving into the city isn’t bad either. The best time to drive across is while the sun is setting behind the skyline. It creates the most amazing sun lit skyline you’ve ever seen. I can’t help but wonder what I’m going to encounter once I enter the Magic City.

On Marriage & Life

During those years living in Miami Beach I also found another kind of love – one that would change my world forever. I met Chad through mutual friends and it didn’t take us too long to realize we were never going to be apart. Our first year together we got engaged, decided to move to Denver, buy our first house together, and get married. My move to Denver was hard on all fronts but it was also one of the best decisions of my life.  It made me stronger, more mature, confident, and overall a better person. It showed me I was capable of so much and really helped shape the relationships I have with family and my friends for the better. I am so grateful for those almost 10 years of life in Denver and everything that it gave me and our family. Now we are back on our old stomping grounds, married, with twin girls and wild labradoodle. It feels like I’m back in my natural habitat and I couldn’t be happier. I’m so ready to get to know a new side of the city I love so much.

On Twin Pregnancy and Birth

The road to motherhood wasn’t as easy as we had hoped. I was diagnosed with low egg count which in turn diminishes the quality of your eggs. After 2 years of trying to conceive the good’ol fashioned way with no success, we decided to go all in with fertility treatments. We ended up having to go through 2 egg retrievals and 3 embryo transfers before we could officially get excited about becoming parents. IVF was long, emotionally draining, expensive and physically painful but the real challenge was yet to come.

I was so relieved and grateful to have a fairly easy twin pregnancy. Compared to IVF days, pregnancy felt like a dream. I will always cherish those 35 weeks and 1 day it took to bake my two little buns. I had a really scary delivery (birth story coming soon) but not even that could prepare us for the arrival of our fraternal twin girls, Cali and Gianna. On February 14, 2017 we became parents to the cutest Valentine’s Day baby girls ever!

Motherhood is truly the hardest and greatest experience of my life. Everything we went through to get here was worth it. We were so blessed to have the unwavering support of our family and friends during this whole ride. They continue to be there for us and we are so appreciative of their love for our family.

On Motherhood and the Blog

I was extremely overwhelmed the year the girls were born. Being a first time mom and automatically given two newbornS to take care of was intense. I was overwhelmed with love, happiness, wonder, excitement and at the same time anxiety, fear, and doubt.  A year after the girls were born I decided to start my own blog @Twinjamjam to share all things I wish I had known about motherhood and [twin] parenting and the things I am learning along the way. Now that I have the amazing opportunity to be a part of Miami Moms Blog I want to expand on my perspective and open up about my loses and wins as a first time mom of twins. I want to connect with other parents and caregivers in the hopes that my experiences help you get through your days and maybe even laugh a little.
