When I became a mom I realized how incredibly hard motherhood can be. Since then, my heart started aching for suffering moms. Those that can’t afford food, diapers or essentials for their children. Moms with seriously ill children. Moms going through depression and anxiety. And the list goes on.
So, inspired by love, compassion and what lies at the heart of Miami Moms Blog’s mission–to encourage, empower and equip moms in our city–we recently launched #MomsOnPurpose. By creating opportunities for local moms to serve at nonprofit organizations, this initiative aims to make it easier for moms to help moms, children, and families in need.
Serving Families at RMHC in South Florida
Between November and December, we brought together two groups of moms to serve families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities. Since 1982, this organization has been providing a “home away from home” to more than 350 families a year with sick children that are receiving treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The House provides home-cooked meals, private bedrooms, and playrooms for children at no cost, allowing families to stay together through such difficult times.
The experience was incredible. Our moms had the chance to serve and some were able to expose their children to the joy of giving to others. It was beautiful to see them coming together to spend time loving on these families.
A big thank you to the moms and businesses that made these events at Ronald McDonald House Charities possible:
- A delicious Cuban-Colombian dinner was generously gifted from Cuban Colombian Foodsion catering service
- The cute teddy bears and stuffed animals were donated by the Jewish Volunteer Center
- Sumy Cotton, owned by our very own contributor Gabriela Morales, donated t-shirts to all of the children currently staying at the House. This line of clothes is made with 100% Peruvian Pima cotton, specifically for children with skin sensitivity.
