Motherhood & the Importance of Community

Motherhood is hard…

Motherhood is magical, it’s rewarding, it’s fulfilling. But let’s be real, motherhood is the hardest hood I’ve ever been in. I thought I had it all figured out after my daughter. She gave me this false confidence that I could have a hundred tiny humans!

When I had my son and one became two, I found myself quickly outnumbered. My husband is military so he is often gone. I have an amazing support system, but even so, I still felt like I was missing something.

It really does take a village to navigate the seasons of parenting. It is no secret that moms who have a good support system and community have it a little easier than those who face these seasons alone. Many studies have shown that mothers with strong support from their communities had lower levels of stress and had a more optimistic approach to parenting.

Importance of Community

When I moved to Miami I joined mom groups, I would go to all the library storytimes, participated in all the pre-Covid activities around the city, went to parks to find mom friends, etc. While I did meet some great people along the way, there wasn’t much connection. Mind you I am quite the extrovert so meeting new people and forming a community is my jam. Even so, I found it difficult to balance work life, marriage, family, health, and making new friends.

In July 2019, I attended my first Miami Moms Blog event. It was a summer meet-up event at Dadeland Mall and it was AWESOME! It was there I really got to see and learn about the Miami Moms Blog (now Miami Mom Collective) community. I was so impressed by this event, I wanted more! I continued to attend playdates and events offered by this community and I was so happy to meet such great moms who also shared my enthusiasm for playdates and wine!

In January an opportunity came up to be a part of this amazing group of mothers and I jumped at the chance. I knew it was definitely something I would enjoy doing. I never realized how much support came along with being a part of this community. And for that, I am forever grateful

From my first event with Miami Mom Collective, I gained that feeling of unity with other mothers who face the same struggles as me. Whether you are needing information on homeschooling or advice on financial planning or best date night hot spots, you can find it all here. This community that we have helps us not only to fight loneliness but to build friendships that last a lifetime.

Together is better!

So my advice to you wherever you may be and whatever season of motherhood you may be struggling through, is to build your community. Take that leap and meet some other moms who can not only help you but be there for you! We don’t need support to accomplish our goals, but it does make it a lot easier!

Like a sweet friend always says, ” Motherhood is hard but it doesn’t have to be lonely!”
