It has been some crazy days around the country. With the spread of the coronavirus at a high speed, it is hard for us moms not to worry or panic, especially for moms like me that has a kid with a chronic condition.

I usually prefer not to worry but be prepared and stay informed. When I talk about being prepared, I am not referring to storage loads of toilet paper or canned food. I mean stock your house with essentials, but also think about others. Be conscious. We have to be more empathetic than ever.

I completely understand that it is a really uncertain situation but let’s try to keep our positive thoughts. Besides social distancing, keep in touch with your friends and family through FaceTime, WhatsApp videos or Skype.

This is what is keeping my sanity during these days of quarantine. I connect with a friend every afternoon through video, we talk for a while and share a virtual cup of coffee. My kids call their friends and talk to them for a while, so they do not feel like they are isolated. Let’s take something good from this scary situation.

Here are some tips and informational sites to keep our families healthy and informed:

  1. Hand washing: Wash your hands with antibacterial soap for at least 20 seconds. You can say a prayer or sing a song while you do it, and time will fly.
  2. No touching: It is not only about touching others, but it is also about not touching yourself. When you are out, try to keep your hands to yourself until you can wash your hands. The virus can travel from your hands to your lungs if you touch your face (nose, mouth, eyes).
  3. Vitamins and probiotics: I am a big fan of a vitamin complex for my kids. I usually do not take vitamins myself but with this virus around, we have to keep our families healthy now more than ever. I know some grocery stores have run out of vitamins, but you still can find some on Amazon with 2-day delivery. Vitamin C and B complex are great to boost your immune system. We also use probiotics daily. This will help to keep the good bacteria in your gut, which will help to keep your immune system up. Some studies have shown they boost the IgA-producing cells, T lymphocytes, and natural killer cells of our immune systems.
  4. Water and healthy eating: Staying hydrated can help keep your immune system strong. Water also helps your body with a number of functions, including regulating body temperature. Eating healthy is so important now. Try to consume as many fruits and vegetables as you can. I know being at home is challenging to stay on track because of the cravings, but instead of eating chocolate or sweets, try to eat as healthy as you can.
