Hope for Miami’s Project Bridge offers Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) to any adult who interacts with youth (or parents of adolescents). YMHFA is a 6.5-hour course that can increase mental health awareness through education on behavioral health and addictions and can help you recognize the potential early warning signs. Email [email protected] for more information or scan the QR Code to sign up, registration is required.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid curriculum is an evidence-based approach that teaches youth workers and parents how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health conditions that affect youth. It is the initial help offered to a person developing a mental health or substance use problem, or experiencing a mental health crisis. This first aid is given until appropriate treatment and support are received or until the crisis resolves.
Participants will learn:
– Risk factors and warning signs of mental health and substance use problems
– Information on depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and substance use
– A 5-step action plan to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or in crisis
– Available evidence-based professional, peer and self-help resources
