Without a doubt, this year has been very different than others. Due to COVID-19, a lot of occasions have not been celebrated the same way as they were in previous years. Halloween 2020 certainly wonโt be an exception. While trick or treating might not be happening in the traditional way this year, there are many creative ways to still enjoy Halloween while social distancing. This could be over Zoom, with close family only, neighborhood parades, and others.
I feel like one of the biggest joys of Halloween is to dress up. Especially if you come up with a fun costume. I absolutely encourage everyone to dress up no matter how you celebrate to keep the spirit of Halloween alive even during these crazy times. Still on the lookout for the perfect family costume? Here are a few inspirations and ideas for fun family Halloween costumes.
Disney Costumes
Disney movies are a great inspiration for a family costume. Some of the cutest ideas I have seen were a family costume with the Dad being Aladdin, the mom being Jasmine, and their little baby boy being Abu, the monkey. For my sonโs first Halloween when he was only 5 months old, I dressed him as Peter Pan and myself as Tinker Bell. The advantages of these types of Disney costumes are that you can easily order them online and they come in PJ material. Hence, if your child is a baby and they pass out during trick-or-treating, you can put them to bed right after.

Star Wars Costumes
I know, all the Star Wars connoisseurs will wonder why this is not under Disney Costumes since Star Wars is now owned by Disney. But since Star Wars is such an empire on his own, I felt like it needed its own category. There are just so many figures in Star Wars to choose from: from R2D2 to Chewbacca. Last year, I dressed up as Princess Leia and had my son be an Ewok. For future Halloweens when my son is a bit bigger, I definitely want to go with the Star Wars theme again. This time I want for us to dress up as an actual Star Wars family: Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Kylo Ren.

Ice Ice Baby
This punny Ice, Ice Baby costume is absolutely hilarious and creative. I love that they added signs that say “Stop,” “Collaborate,” and “And Listen.” A true and funny homage to the classic song Ice, Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice.

Superheroes
Other family Halloween costumes you can never go wrong with include dressing the whole family up as superheroes. There are so many of them that you will be quite spoiled for choice: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Captain America, Black Panther, and a lot more. Another favorite family costume for Halloween is The Incredibles. Last year, Miami Mom Collective threw an entire superhero party where kids and parents alike dressed up as their favorite superheroes. Additionally, there were capes and masks available for those who wanted to upgrade their costume.
Put your baby carrier to use!
I know this is a site mainly for moms. But in the spirit of being inclusive, I just had to share these creative, comedy-inspired dad and newborn costumes. Alan and Carlos from Hangover, and Dr. Evil and Mini-Me from Austin Powers.

I hope however you decide to celebrate that you and your family are staying healthy and safe this Halloween. Moreover, we wish you a lot of fun with your loved ones. We would love to see your costumes! Join our 2nd Annual Miami Mom Collective Halloween Costume Contest and tag @miamimomcollective on your posts. Happy Halloween!
