Sangria: Where to Find the Best Glass in the Magic City

I have fond memories of grandparents making sangria.  There was fruit cocktail from the can, dark red wine, and Sprite.  Needless to say, as I got older I was not a fan of this family recipe.  Except for a summer in Salamanca, Spain at the end of college, it was not my cocktail of choice.

Cheers!

Just recently, a good friend introduced me to my new favorite cocktail – sangria!  Yes, it has come a long way from my grandmother’s kitchen.  White sangria has become my go-to cocktail.  What I have also come to learn is that it is not all created equally.  So here are my favorite places to get an amazing glass in the Magic City:

  • Bulla Gastrobar in Coral Gables and Doral, inspired by tapas restaurants in Spain.  They have white and red sangrias made with Cava (not Sprite) and fresh berries.  In October they have a special pink sangria to support breast cancer awareness.  They also have a non-alcoholic berry lemonade that is just perfect!
  • Whisk Gourmet in South Miami, specializing in home-style meals using seasonal and local ingredients.  Their homemade lychee sangria is delicious with their Brussels sprouts.
  • Mandolin Aegean Bistro on the outskirts of Miami’s Design District.  Straight out of Mama Mia, this Greek-inspired cafe has a refreshing green apple sangria.  It was also mentioned in our Guide to Mom’s Night Out.

I am sure you have your favorite refreshing cocktail.  Any other sangria lovers out there?  Where do you find AMAZING glass?  I would love to know.  Really.
