Meet Dr. Bob
Miami Mom Collective has had the privilege of partnering with Dr. Bob Pediatric Dentist over the last few years. Together, we’ve collaborated on 30+ blog posts, several local events, and exclusive Q+As. But just who is Dr. Bob?
Dr. Christopher Bob was born and raised right here in Miami. He went to Florida State University for his undergrad, the University of Kentucky for dental school, and then completed his pediatric residency at Miami Children’s Hospital. From there he was hired to be a dental attending at Miami Children’s to teach and opened his private practice, located in South Miami, in 2014. He’s currently a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry. He’s also a parent, doing the parenting thing just like us!
A Few Fun Facts
Hometown: Miami, FL
What made you decide to pursue a career in pediatric dentistry?Honestly, I always thought I wanted to work with children. During dental school, I had the opportunity to spend extra time in the pediatric department and just fell in love with the energy and excitement of pediatric dentistry.
Favorite aspects of practicing pediatric dentistry:My absolute favorite part of dentistry with children is when you have a patient that has never been to the dentist who is absolutely terrified, and we are able to win them over and create a happy dental patient for life!
What is the most rewarding part of your job? When the parents of that same terrified patient ask if they can be my patient as well! Most adults had terrible dental experiences as children and unintentionally pass those same fears to their kids.
This last year, you and your wife–who is also a pediatric dentist–celebrated the launch of Dr. Bob Oral Care with the first and only US-based unflavored fluoridated toothpaste on the market. What can you tell us about this exciting accomplishment? This was a huge undertaking but something I felt I needed to do in order to help many parents and kids. The number one question I am asked by my patient’s parents is what toothpaste to use, to which I always answered, any toothpaste with fluoride that they like and will use. This always came with the follow: ‘I’ve tried all the flavors and they don’t like any of them, are there any without flavor?’ I never had a good response to that question so after listening to my patients over a few years I decided to make the answer!

What have you and your wife learned about balancing work and family life? This is the most challenging aspect for any couple. I am truly blessed to have a very supportive wife. I am a workaholic and she is always there to remind me to unplug and focus on family time with our kids. The most important way to balance is to make the time.
One of the things you often emphasize is the importance of establishing and maintaining an oral health routine at home. Do you have some helpful tips/hacks that have made a difference in your own home?Make it fun! The only way to get kids, my own included, to do anything routinely is to make it fun!
