Loving God–Learning to Love a God I Don’t Yet Know

0

How is your faith walk going? Do you feel far and distant from God? Do you seek to get to know Him more but simply don’t know how? I’ve been here before, wanting to learn but not knowing where to begin. I hope to give you a few ways to learn to love a God you may not know yet.

  1. Let’s start with a posture of humility. simply put it’s a posture that is willing to learn. A posture that doesn’t know it all and has an open heart.
  2. Secondly, pray! It’s simple, a conversation that can go like this “Hi God, I don’t know you but I want to know more of you and get closer to you. Would you expand my mind to learn from you?”
  3. Next, open up the Holy Bible. The Bible has survived the test of time and while some may think it’s irrelevant, it’s full of wisdom and stories of triumph and hope.

God uses the Bible to teach us and today we will focus on one text about loving God.

So he answered and said, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and, ‘your neighbor as yourself.'”  Luke 10:27

Loving God with your heart and your soul

  • Denotes the center of all physical and spiritual life
  • With everything that you are, love GOD
  • Practically speaking, every decision you make should point back to “does this honor God?”
  • Our love to him must be sincere, hearty, and fervent; it must be a superlative love, a love that is as strong as death, but an intelligent love, and such as we can give a good account of the grounds and reasons of.Matthew Henry

Loving God with your mind…

  • I’m a little upset it doesn’t say feelings… I’m good at loving with my feelings. Feelings can be misleading, one minute we are happy and the next we are down.
  • You learn to love God with your mind by being a student of God’s word. The Bible is filled with truths and treasures, it’s incredible the lessons you learn when you ask God to help you learn.
  • Get to know him intellectually
  • To learn to study and read the Bible you can find more resources on my website

And your neighbor… as yourself

  • Your neighbor is everyone, not just your physical next-door neighbor but everyone, all of mankind. If they have a beating heart you should love them.
  • This doesn’t mean that we must love ourselves before we can love anyone else; it means that in the same way we take care of ourselves and are concerned with our own interests, we should take care and have concern for the interests of others.David Guzik

Over the years I’ve learned that God loves people! He loves you so much. If you’ve read this entire blog post I know that you long to know him more and for that I commend you. You are on the right track, keep searching and you will find. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
