Meet Meredith Kallaher of The Scout Guide Miami
We have partnered with our friends at JustAskBoo to bring you The Working Moms Spotlight Series, highlighting local Moms who are influencing others at home and in the workplace.
This month we are proud to feature a true connoisseur of all things Miami: Meredith Kallaher. Meredith is a mother of three, Owner and Editor of The Scout Guide and a Miami transplant turned local expert! When she’s not volunteering with philanthropic endeavors throughout Miami you will find her “scouting” out the latest fitness studios and tasting the hottest new restaurants all while managing her chauffeur her kids to activities around town like the rest of us.
Introducing, Meredith Kallaher…
Meredith, let me begin by saying thank you for the work that you do showcasing local businesses in Miami. Your work truly is influencing others by connecting people in a meaningful way. You actually connected Miami Moms Blog & Just Ask Boo in 2018! We are grateful for that introduction and now here we are! We are thrilled to share a little of your story today. Tell us more about the work you do with The Scout Guide Miami…
I am the Owner and Editor of The Scout Guide Miami. This past January we launched Volume 4 in Miami. In my role as Owner and Editor of The Scout Guide Miami I provide annual advertising packages for locally owned Miami businesses. This package includes placement in our beautiful print guide, inclusion in our online national directory, influencer type social media posts and networking opportunities with fellow Miami business owners. It’s a lot of fun to connect with business owners all over town who are doing great work.
What inspired you to start The Scout Guide Miami?
The Dallas Scout Guide owners were an inspiration to me. I am originally from Dallas and I watched online from Miami as they grew The Scout Guide in my hometown. I love to write and the prospect of exploring my new city and introducing the people and businesses who I met to an online community was very exciting. Four years later, here we are!
I have seen The Scout Guides and they are absolutely stunning. It is obvious that each photoshoot is carefully curated to reflect the uniqueness of each business that you work with. There are clearly tons of opportunities for creativity in your line of work. Where do you find that you like to draw your inspiration and ideas?
From my clients! I spend a lot of time stalking them because when I work with a business for an entire year I really want to have a deep understanding of who they are, not only as a business, but also as individuals. And honestly, I’m in awe. These business owners are amazing! They have grit, perseverance, creativity and originality! They are an inspiration to me.
What’s the most creative thing you have done as Owner of The Scout Guide?
Hmmm, let me think… This year I was asked to introduce the owner of Miami Women Who Rock at her annual 50 Shades of Pink Awards in the ballroom at The Biltmore Hotel. My assigned job was to quiet the room of women before her keynote speech. I had been told that it was not easy to quiet this group of women. SO I dressed up as Joan Jett, had the DJ play “I Love Rock and Roll” and had 6 women around the room shoot off pink confetti cannons as I walked to the stage. It worked! I was able to grab everyone’s attention and the room was showered in pink!
I’d say that worked! Do you have any mentors in business?
I would say Amy Porterfield, Rachel Hollis, Tyler J. Mcall and Brook Castillo. They don’t know they are my mentors but I have learned so much from them!
Tell us about an obstacle that you’ve encountered in business and how you overcame it.
As I started building the second volume of The Scout Guide Miami I felt overwhelmed with possibilities! There are a lot of locally owned businesses in Miami. I hired a business coach and she helped me strategize. Do not ever be afraid to ask for help!
What advice would you give to women who are a few years behind you, professionally and what resources would you recommend?
We’re glad to hear that! Meredith, you’re also a Mom to 3 children. How has being a mother influenced you in business? Share with us the challenges and the triumphs.
What advice would you give a Mom who is thinking about re-entering the workforce?
Ok, we’re going to end our time together with some light hearted, fun questions… If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?
Right here. Honestly. The Scout Guide Miami Volume 4 launched last month and I feel like a kid in a candy store at the moment. I’m finally tackling so many projects that were on a list of “after the book is released.” PLUS, you can’t beat a Miami winter! This is my favorite time of year in Miami. But, TRUTH, I am looking forward to the trip we have planned to Colorado for spring break! I love to snow ski and can not wait!
With 4 years of The Scout Guide under your belt you clearly know some of the best places around town. Share with us where you like to go for some “me-time” to rest and recharge?
It’s hard to beat the running path along Old Cutler Road and the beach!
What is one of your simple joys…
Notes left by my husband or children next to the coffee maker, because they know that’s my first stop each morning.
Leave us with the words you live by..
Just keep swimming.
We encourage you to connect with Meredith and The Scout Guide Miami online. She will give you great local recommendations and you can’t help but be encouraged by her infectious smile and charm.
