Miami Moms Blog Kristine McGlinchey-Yap

Hi, I’m Kristine, a Miami native and a first time mother to a happy baby girl.

It’s an honor to be welcomed into this amazing community. I am a new contributor to the Miami Moms Blog Writing Team and also the Events Team.

My professional background in in public relations and social media management. I decided to transition into entrepreneurship when the baby was born.  After working in corporate communications for more than a decade, my priorities shifted and I wanted to have a more flexible schedule.

Enlightened by my pregnancy journey, I started an online community, OM Mommas, that serves as a space for women to heal and flourish. It has grown into a beautiful support system for women around the world, and has allowed me to transition my leadership skills into maternity consulting. My mission is to provide expectant and current moms with the support and resources they need to feel empowered and to make decisions that align with their mind, body and spirit.

Miami

I was born in Miami and grew up in a multi-ethnic household. My mother was born in the Philippines and my father grew up in Philadelphia.

Being raised in Miami meant that there was never a dull moment, always something to do or sun to soak up.

In all honesty, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with this city. At times I’ve felt like I didn’t belong here but every time I thought about moving my feet stayed planted firmly on the ground.

It’s this city that gave me first-hand experience with culture and diversity. Its oceans gave me calm when I needed it, the parks quiet stillness from the chaos of the streets. It is here that my foundation was built, where I found love and birthed new life.

So aside from the traffic, Miami’s not so bad after all!

Moms

Motherhood took my life and spun it upside down in all of the best ways. Once I found out I was pregnant, major shifts happened for me. For instance, I had to be more loving and kinder to myself in order to provide our baby girl with the love and compassion she deserved.

Mentally I had to be strong and overcome my fears, traumas and limiting beliefs about motherhood. My body had to be healthy, well nourished and toxin-free. My spirit had to be grounded and energized for this new chapter.

I realized that motherhood demands everything from a woman. It requires our presence.

Even now at the time that I’m writing this, 8 months in, that practice has been a hard pill for me to swallow.

When you climb corporate ladders it means non-stop hustling and long days. If you’re not overwhelmed you’re not working hard enough.

When you are a mother it means taking it one day at a time and slowing down. Whatever you’re doing/not doing is enough.

I’ve learned so much about myself and the strength of women. I applaud every single mom out there for showing up and doing her best day in and day out.
