Ring, ring! The 70’s are calling and they want YOU to bring a little 70’s style into the present day. Don’t worry, it’s not bell-bottoms. I am talking about the ever so wonderful tie-dye t-shirt.

Sure, you can just go to the store and pick up a tie-dye t-shirt, but where’s the fun in that? I don’t know about you, but during these “stay at home” kind of days, I’ve exhausted all Pinterest ideas on how to keep my girls entertained. This was a fun activity the girls enjoyed and nothing made them more proud than to flaunt something they created.

Here’s what you’ll need

-A white t-shirt
-Tie-dye kit (this comes with everything you will need)

Get to work

1. Choose an outdoor space for easy cleanup. I suggest protecting the surface you’re working on with a garbage bag or a plastic disposable table cloth because things will get messy!

2. Decide on the style of tie-dye you would like. (We love the classic swirl, but the kit comes with a ton of ideas.)

3. Make sure you always wear your gloves because you’ll be rocking some tie-dye hands if you don’t!

4. Add water to the bottles. The less water you use, the brighter the color will be.

5. Once you have dyed your shirts, wrap them with plastic wrap. The longer they sit, the better it will stain the shirt. I let mine sit for 12 hours.

6. Let the shirts completely dry first before you wash them. Wash your shirts apart from your regular laundry to avoid staining other shirts.

7. Voíla! You’re ready to wear your new tie-dye t-shirt.

Style it up!

Here are some fun ideas to style up your tie-dye shirt:

-Snip it up with some fabric scissors
Tie a knot at the bottom with a hair tie if the shirt is too big.
-Add some iron-on decor
-Personalize it with you name

This activity will surely be a hit with your kids, big or small. I must admit that I had a blast making it myself. Then again, I am a total kid at heart.

Enjoy!
