Miami Moms Blog Welcomes: MIA Mom Daniela Dimas

Hi Miami Moms! I’m Daniela, a happy wife and mama to identical twin girls. I am thrilled to have joined this incredible group of moms sharing the same love and passion for Miami and motherhood.

I was born and raised in a small province in Peru. When I was 12 years old, my family decided to move to the US in search of the American dream. We landed in Miami and never looked back. At first, I had a very hard time adjusting to such a big change; a new country, a new language, a completely different culture, and being away from the rest of my family. 18 years later, there’s nothing that could take me away from this city. And if I had to do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat. Miami is my home. It’s where I met my husband and where my daughters were born. This city has given me more than I ever dreamed of, and for that, I will love it forever.

What I love most about Miami is the diversity of cultures, nationalities, and food! I can start my day with a cortadito and a croqueta, have fritanga for lunch and end with a lomo saltado for dinner. Where else would this be possible? It’s the best of ALL worlds. Miami is a hub for immigration, and as an immigrant myself, I love the endless opportunities it offers and has provided for my family and me. And as if it could get any better, I love that I can have a bit of my little Peru all around the city.

My husband and I met when we were both 23 and married 3 years later. As a newly married couple, we had many, many plans in mind for how we wanted our lives to play out. We wanted to enjoy our marriage and travel the world for the first two years. We wanted to wait to start a family until we felt ready. Clearly, God had a much different plan for us. 3 months into our marriage, right after coming back from a NY trip (and with a Euro trip planned and booked), we found out I was pregnant. Not only with one baby, but two! To say our lives were completely turned upside down is an understatement.

We had no idea what we were in for or what a twin pregnancy entailed. Our girls were born 9 weeks premature and to this day (2.5 years later), it has been the toughest journey I have ever been on. Being a preemie mom changed my perspective and life. I didn’t have an easy, normal start to motherhood. But going through what I went through with my girls has made me stronger in so many ways.

Every day I learn something new about life, about motherhood and about myself.

It changes us completely. If I tell you that raising twins is a walk in the park, I’d be lying. It is hard, overwhelming, and exhausting. But it is also the biggest blessing and most amazing adventure of my life. I didn’t know how capable and strong I was, or how much love my heart could hold until I became a mother.

I have always loved to write, and after I had my girls I wanted to start writing about my experiences with motherhood. I’ve been wanting to start a personal blog for a long time, but life always got in the way and it never happened. When I saw that MMB was looking for contributors I thought it was a sign. A sign that it’s time for me to start sharing a little bit of my take on motherhood, finally!

I’m so excited to be part of this tribe of wonderful moms and I’m looking forward to sharing my personal thoughts and experiences about premature birth, twin motherhood, marriage, and anything that I can help other moms with. I want to be able to connect and relate to other moms who might have gone through or may be going through similar experiences. It takes a village, and the MMB village is an amazing one that I’m proud to be part of.
