Hi everyone! I’m Lissette and I’m so excited to be sharing my Miami mom journey with everyone here on Miami Moms Blog. I am a Miami native. I was born and raised here in Miami so I am familiar with most of Miami’s neighborhoods, but I call Westchester my home.

Miami

I have a similar story to many on how I came to be here in Miami. I am the child of Cuban immigrants who came not long after Castro took control of Cuba. But that’s where the similarities end.

I currently live within a mile of my childhood home. Before settling where I did, I have been a part of many communities around Miami. For a time, I lived in Kendall, the Roads, and Little Havana. I have worked in Downtown, Coconut Grove, Miami Beach, and Coral Gables. I have also participated in volunteer activities which have taken me all over the city. Like many others, I have a love/hate relationship with Miami. But at the end of the day, this is my home and it’s in my blood and soul.

The reason I live within a mile of my childhood home is because of my husband. We live in his childhood home which happens to be right down the street from mine. Even though we grew up blocks from each other we didn’t meet until I was in my late 20’s. When we did meet, we became fast friends and later realized we had an intense love for one another.

We have been together for 14 years and married 8 of those years. We have two very silly children together, who are now 5 and 2.

After having my first, I decided I wanted to stay home with him. As an older mom and one who went through a miscarriage before having kids, I didn’t want to miss a moment of his life. Then my daughter came. Both kids have been a blessing to our family and also a source of joy (and exhaustion).

In their short lives, they have already taught me so much. Out of all the lessons I’ve learned, the most important is that children have their own schedules. All the planning in the world doesn’t compare to a child’s needs. And once you think you finally have this mom thing all figured out, they’ll change and you have to adjust to them again.

Because I have been in Miami for the great majority of my life (minus a 3-year stint in Tallahassee during my college years), I have a huge desire to travel all over. Thankfully, my husband’s job can accommodate some of my wanderlust. He works for a major cruise line in Miami and because of this, we are able to cruise and travel often. Whenever I have the opportunity to travel, I am packing our bags before I can say, “let’s go!”

Traveling with kids is very different from traveling as a couple. I have learned a lot of tricks when it comes to traveling with kids. Everything from, how to do Disney with a toddler, to how to fly as a mom alone with two kids 5 and under. I want to be able to share all this knowledge and more with you, especially with any moms that have an extreme wanderlust like mine. I know the fear of traveling with little kids, and I want to help make you more confident in your travels. I definitely don’t want you to feel like you’re missing out on seeing the world because the best gift you can give children is knowledge of the world around them.

So, I look forward to sharing with you and I can’t wait to get to know the Miami Moms Blog community better. Drop by and say hi in the comments and let me know a little about you too!
