There’s a Blessing in Every Storm

Let’s start with me just telling you that no matter what season we’re in, you’re a GREAT mom. My husband always tells me that when I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. Even though it may sound like a small thing to do, it makes a big difference. Instead of focusing on all the uncertainty, let’s make this a season of encouragement.

I know that for many of us 2020 has been a difficult one. It sometimes feels like a never-ending story. When all of this began back in March I don’t think any of us could have pictured this. And to be honest, I’m glad. Had someone told me that I would be a 1st-grade teacher again in August, I’m not sure how well I would have taken it. But looking back I can see that this season has also brought me some great memories to take along. There’s truly a blessing in every storm. We just have to look for it.

You can endure anything for a season.

I have been through several difficult seasons these past few years. Some of them have been more challenging than others. All of them came with a large portion of uncertainty. I’m going to spare you guys from all the details of what I’ve gone through. But let me tell you what I’ve learned from them. You can endure anything for a season.

When in the midst of a difficult season like this one, filled with a lot of uncertainty… Stop, breathe, and remind yourself of this. You can endure anything for a season. The strength you have inside is stronger than you may think. Just look at all the things you already have endured during this season. I’m sure you have accomplished a lot more positive things than you first thought you would. When I look back on earlier seasons of uncertainty and frustration, I see one thing clearly. When I emerge from the season I’m always stronger and wiser then I was entering it. I find that every season is teaching me something new. Giving me something positive to look back on. And even though it sometimes feels like it’s too much I’m thankful for what it has given me.

Your purpose is still not on pause.

Even though it feels like everything is on pause, your purpose is not. A lot of our plans for this year didn’t turn out the way we pictured them. Some people have gotten their dreams crushed. And they may feel like they’re on the edge. You might feel that your whole life is spiraling out of control. But let me assure you about this one thing. Your purpose in life is not on pause. God still has big plans for you, and your purpose is bigger than you think. You’re in this world for a reason, and not even a pandemic can take that away from you.

You don’t need to prove anything.

Your value doesn’t depend on how well you’re handling this season. How many rooms you have reorganized. Your latest picture-perfect DIY project. How good you are at playing with your kids. Or how creative you are with your summer school home edition.

We all know that it’s nice when someone comments on how well we seem to cope with this whole craziness. And if we’re honest we all hope to get some likes on our Instagram posts. But what it all comes down to is that you are loved. You’re good enough as you are. There is no one your kids admire as much as you. You are their safe haven. The one they trust the most. And the one that no matter what they know will always be there. They don’t care about all of our crazy projects. When they look back at this season I’m confident that it’s your love they’re going to remember. The feeling of being loved, safe, and not alone.
