The pressures of everyday life in today’s world can take a toll on mental health. Life experiences of trauma, loss, abuse, layoffs, and relationship difficulties can also contribute to anxiety, stress, overwhelm, PTSD, depression, and other challenges. Therapy can be a helpful tool for navigating and finding healthy ways to cope with a variety of mental health issues while supporting mental wellness.

But sometimes the hardest part is getting started. And that includes finding the right therapist.

Finding the Right Therapist Matters

When you’re looking for a therapist, you want to find someone professional and trustworthy. And you also want to find someone who gets you. Someone who understands your background, culture, and life experience along with expertise in the modality of care that’s best for you. In fact, research shows that the relationship between the client and the therapist is one of the strongest predictors of whether or not therapy is effective.

The process of finding a therapist can include asking family members or friends for recommendations, sorting through Google search results, and reading numerous reviews–on top of trying to find out what your health benefits will cover. It can feel daunting, which isn’t helpful when you’re already feeling unmotivated or overwhelmed. And then, what if you don’t click with the therapist you choose?

That’s where Two Chairs can help!

Introducing Two Chairs

Two Chairs was founded in 2017 to create a world where people have access to exceptional mental healthcare. With the specific aim of helping people solve the issue of finding the right therapist, they’ve collaborated with their clinical team to build a 300+ point 45-minute matching appointment that helps clients find the best therapist for them. Their diverse team is comprised of therapists of whom 45% are Black, Indigenous, and people of color with 90+ combined areas of expertise who practice 32+ therapy modalities. In fact, 98% of the time their clients find the right therapist on the first try!

How Two Chairs Helps Find the Right Therapist

With Two Chairs, the journey toward finding a therapist begins with a matching appointment. This appointment is a collaborative but highly targeted discussion that aims to clarify your goals for therapy and help them match you with the best therapist for you. Because starting therapy can be a tough decision and often those interested in care don’t even know where to begin, they take the guesswork out of it. During the matching appointment, you can expect to discuss identity and demographic preferences, specialty areas and structure of therapy, and when, where, and how you want to meet (in-person, virtually, or a hybrid of both). It’s like having a personal agent whose #1 priority is helping you find a therapist. How awesome is that?!

What Finding the Right Therapist Means to Mothers

Becoming a mom is arguably the biggest life change a woman can experience. But it’s also complicated. It’s a transition that can be beautiful and celebratory while simultaneously marked by grief and loss. In the U.S., it’s estimated that 1 in 5 women experience symptoms of depression that start during pregnancy and last up to a year after giving birth. The duration of symptoms can vary, depending on the severity and whether someone or not seeks treatment. A licensed postpartum therapist can help determine the best course while equipping those in care with the tools needed to manage difficult symptoms, situations, and emotions. You don’t have to struggle through it alone, and having a supportive therapist you trust can make all the difference.
