This Month’s MOM STRONG Theme: Going Back-to-School
As summer draws to a close, it’s time to prepare for the new school year. We understand that transitioning back to the school routine can be both exciting and challenging for families. To help you make this transition smoother, we have curated a special back-to-school edition with valuable insights and practical tips.
How Families Can Be More Prepared
The beginning of the school year can be overwhelming, but with a little preparation, families can ensure a successful start. Here are 5 essential tips to help you get ready for the new school year:
Organizing School Supplies and Backpacks: Sort through last year’s supplies and make a shopping list for new items. Involve your kids in the process to make it fun and exciting!
Establishing a Designated Study Area at Home: Create a quiet and well-lit study space where your children can focus on their schoolwork without distractions.
Reviewing School Policies and Important Dates: Familiarize yourself with the school’s policies and mark important dates, such as parent-teacher meetings and school events, on your calendar.
Scheduling Health Checkups and Vaccinations: Ensure your child is up-to-date with vaccinations and schedule a health checkup to address any health concerns before school starts.
Setting Realistic Expectations and Goals: Have open discussions with your kids about their academic and personal goals for the school year. Encourage them to aim high while being realistic about their capabilities.
I’ve always loved the first day of school better than the last day of school. Firsts are best because they are beginnings.

Creating a Schedule for Getting Back Into a Routine
Returning to a structured routine after a relaxed summer can be challenging for children. However, a well-planned schedule can help them adapt more easily. Follow these 4 steps to create a smooth transition:
Adjusting Sleep Patterns and Bedtimes: Start gradually moving bedtime earlier, and wake up closer to the school schedule a week or two before the first day of school.
Incorporating Study Time and Extracurricular Activities: Allocate time for homework and study sessions while also allowing your children to engage in extracurricular activities they enjoy.
Allowing for Family Time and Relaxation: Despite busy schedules, make sure to set aside quality family time and moments of relaxation to reduce stress.
Balancing Screen Time and Outdoor Activities: Encourage a healthy balance between screen time and outdoor play to promote mental and physical well-being.
