This Month’s MOM STRONG Theme: Embracing the Heat, Eating Well & Supporting the Community

As the scorching summer heat takes over Miami, we’re here to help you make the most of this season while keeping your mind and body refreshed.

Get Outside & Enjoy Outdoor Activities

When the Miami sun is at its peak, the heat can make it challenging to engage in outdoor activities. However, with a little planning and some smart choices, you can still enjoy the great outdoors while staying cool.

Early Morning Beach Walks: Start your day by taking a relaxing stroll along the beach during the cooler hours of the morning.

Evening Paddle Boarding: Paddle boarding is not only a fantastic full-body workout but it also allows you to connect with nature.

Take a Walk Around Your Neighborhood: Go on a walk around your neighborhood during the late afternoon and evening hours to beat the heat.

Dive Into Water Sports: Whether it’s swimming, surfing, or jet skiing, water activities offer a fun way to beat the heat. Make sure to follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate gear to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Join Outdoor Fitness Classes: Look for classes that take place in shaded areas. These classes are a great way to connect with like-minded individuals and enjoy the support of exercising in a group.

Minority Mental Health Awareness

Mental health knows no boundaries, yet it’s essential to acknowledge and address the specific challenges that Hispanics face. The Hispanic community faces unique challenges and barriers when it comes to mental health, including cultural stigma, language barriers, and limited access to culturally competent care. It is crucial that we raise awareness about these issues and foster a deeper understanding of the specific struggles faced by Hispanics in seeking and receiving mental health support.

Tips and Strategies for Maintaining Positive Mental Health: Tailored to the Needs of Hispanics

Embrace Cultural Identity: Connect with your roots and cultural heritage. Engaging in traditions, celebrating festivals, and connecting with your community can foster a sense of belonging.

Seek Culturally Sensitive Support: Mental health professionals who understand the unique experiences and challenges you face can provide help that aligns with your cultural background, language preferences, and values.

Build Strong Social Connections: Cultivate relationships with people who understand and support your cultural identity. These connections can provide a strong support system, offer a sense of belonging, and help you navigate challenges more effectively.

Address Stigma: Challenge the stigma surrounding mental health within your community. Engage in open conversations, share personal experiences, and educate others about the importance of seeking help when needed.
